Loxahatchee, Florida The name Loxahatchee is a Seminole Indian term that means “River of Turtles”. Palm beach County, Florida is the home of the famed Loxahatchee River at Jonathon Dickens State Park, the Loxahatchee Wild Life Refuge, and the newly incorporated Town of Loxahatchee. The surrounding rural area has been also commonly known as Loxahatchee due to the common postal designation. The area is predominantly rural and includes approximately 8,000 single family homes and homesites that are 1.25 acres of land and more. The Town of Loxahatchee is a small mostly agricultural and equestrian community that was established back in the early 1920’s and an orange grove. The community was known as Loxahatchee Groves. The Loxahatchee area also includes several upscale equestrian communities such as Fox Trail, Deer Run, White Fences and Wildwoods. The Loxahatchee Postal area is booming with two new major planned unit developments known as The City of West Lake and Arden, which when complete will include over 6000 new homes, and the new West Lake Town Center. Loxahatchee has been well known for rural, country, laid back life styles with horses, farm animals, small farms with mostly low density housing and few commercial or industrial uses located within the entire area.
